AT&T Travel Pros Share Top Business Travel Tips

Having a job that takes you on the road is an exciting opportunity. Connecting with teams and clients across the country or world can be a great way to expand your skills and keep your daily routine from getting stale. Traveling might not be for everyone, but if your job involves travel – we’ve got you covered with some of our best advice.

Whether you’re already a travel pro or not – these business travel tips can make traveling for work a breeze:

1. Wear comfortable shoes – there’s nothing worse than having sore feet.
2. Always bring snacks. You never know when you’ll need a quick pick me up.
3. Choose hotel and rental car brands that offer rewards for future trips.

– Jennifer Langston, Lead College Recruiting Manager

1. Pack an umbrella.
2. Anticipate delays; pack an extra set of clothing.
3. Have plenty of options to power your electronic devices. Include a wall mount surge protector that swivels for those times you may have to share a wall outlet. This one.

– Sal Gonzalez, Associate Director - Talent Acquisition

1. It's all about status. Ideally, pick an airline, rental car and hotel brand that operates in the cities you most frequent. By demonstrating loyalty to those brands, after repeated visits you'll accrue valuable points and elite status. An occasional suite upgrade makes any trip that much better.
2. Have your essential items packed at all times. Having a spare tech and toiletry kit will make packing that much easier and you will never forget to pack your phone’s USB charger and toothbrush.
3. Exercise, exercise, exercise! With consistent exercising, you are able to create a normal routine that will make getting up in a new city that much easier.

– Grant Reid, Lead College Recruiting Manager

1. Find podcasts that you enjoy and download episodes to your mobile device so you can have something on-hand to pass the time.
2. Don't be afraid to branch out and explore the town you're in! I've discovered some of my favorite restaurants by asking local residents where to go and browsing online. Next time you'll look forward to your trip that much more!
3. Have duplicates of a few items that you always bring on your trip (toiletries, device chargers, etc.) stashed in your travel bag at all times to make packing quicker and involve less scrambling.

– Jenny Galinski, Lead College Recruiting Manager

1. Make a List. About a week or so before each trip, make a mental list of items you don’t want to forget. I’ve learned that when I think of something, I need to write it down.
2. Charge your electronics before you leave. I always make sure my iPad, laptop and phones are fully charged before I leave home. In addition, make sure to have your chargers readily available in your backpack and/or purse so you can always recharge easily.
3. Ensure you have all important documents readily accessible either electronically or a printed copy. This would include hotel, flight and/or rental car information.

– Kim Rakers, Lead College Recruiting Manager

1. Get a travel wallet. This helps keep your ID/passport ready instead of digging around in pockets or bags.
2. Download the airline’s app so that you can check flight status, check in and have boarding pass available.
3. Make sure your carry-on has a change of clothes in case your luggage gets lost.
4. If traveling abroad, enroll your trip with the nearest U.S. Embassy or consulate. This will allow the U.S. Embassy to contact you in case of an emergency.
5. Get a hotel room with an interior entrance and above-ground floor. You want to be near the elevator, but not too close to the emergency exits.

– Liset Soto, Sr. Training Manager
