Professional RAN Engineer+

Location: Charlotte, NC

Designs, optimizes, and implements RF Engineering activities for all Indoor and Outdoor DAS projects as assigned. This includes:


1. RF design for in-building/venue sites (DAS) to meet coverage and capacity objectives. Familiar with in-building design requirements for coverage and capacity. Drive designs for capacity intensive venues using multiple antenna locations within limited space while managing interference/overlap (prediction/CW testing) for increased capacity output.

2. Complete RF design for Outdoor DAS market identified areas inclusive of use of Atoll propagation tool and associated signal testing process.

3. Working with local RF market POCs and others to define site, sector, cluster, peak busyhour attendance, and PoR information at select venues (stadiums, convention centers, hotels, malls, transit)

4. Collecting data from OSS systems, field scanners & walk-test plots, etc. to characterize performance at these venues.

5. Generating venue performance trending and scorecards per established KPIs.

6. Conducting analysis and presenting initial findings on the RF problems and needs at each venue:

7. Assisting internal teams with venue prioritization for funding.

8. Providing SME-level recommendations on proposed venue solutions

9. Providing pre- and post- implementation performance analysis; assisting in troubleshooting of venue performance.


Expert level lead individual contributor engineer with strong technical skills. Analyzes performance measurement & statistics to improve network efficiencies & identify potential problems. Provides trend analysis. Analyzes performance standards. Develops detailed recommendations for changes & process improvements. Provides operational report analysis. Promotes standardization in national & field areas. This position may be responsible for contributing to AT&T's compliance with environmental laws and regulations as applicable to its job function. This may include, but is not limited to, work related to fuel tanks, emergency and stand-by generators, boilers, hazardous waste, hazardous materials, batteries, manholes and vaults, water wells, linear and other construction projects, water discharge, or air emissions.

Qualifications:

· Experienced with DAS architecture remote nodes, fiber optic components, BTS hotel front end, GSM BTS and UMTS Node B components (power amplifiers, combiners, duplexers), single band and dual band RF installation architecture (feeders, antennas, TMAs and diplexers)

· Senior contributor familiar with network architecture for GSM, UMTS, LTE technologies, minimum 5 years of RF design experience designing GSM, UMTS, LTE networks

· BSEE degree

· Hands on experience with RF propagation tools (Atoll, Wizard, Asset, Planet and ibwave)

· Experienced radio propagation for the cellular and PCS spectrum bands, propagation model tuning aspects, antenna theory, link budgets (losses, gains, fade margins for indoor, in-car, outdoor applications)

· Good communication and presentation skills (Power point), advanced Mapinfo and Microsoft Excel level, team player and interacts with complex project teams.




Required Qualifications


  • Associates degree in Engineering, Math or Sciences.

  • 3-5 years of progressive successful development as an engineer.

  • Strong knowledge of and the ability to solve complex issues in the areas of RF engineering principles (RF communications theory, design principles, network optimization, propagation modeling and prediction, etc.) and vendor capability assessment, Network architecture (3GPP Air interface, standards, technology and evolution, etc.), Vendor capability assessment and Wireless engineering principles (cell site/tower design, attributes and specifications, and RAN design, spectrum/frequency planning, etc.).

  • Fully proficient with Hardware (Cell site equipment layout, network infrastructures), Performance Management (System KPIs and metrics, etc.), and Software (Parameter definition, etc).
